Canadians deserve full value for our oil

Canada isn’t getting full value for our oil because we don’t have enough pipeline capacity. That’s making it hard for Canadians in the energy sector to get work. But it’s also leaving a big hole in government budgets and governments fill those holes by taking more money from taxpayers.

it costs us all money.

How is money coming out of your pocket when we don’t get

full value for our oil?

1. Governments collect oil revenues

Governments collect a lot of money from the Canadian oil industry in royalties and taxes. And when the industry is doing well, the economy also gets a boost which helps increase government revenues.

2. But they are collecting less

Governments are collecting a lot less revenue than they should because Canada’s not getting full value for our oil.

3. Canadian oil can’t get to the world market

We don’t have enough pipeline capacity for our oil and we can’t get better prices if we can’t get the oil to the world market.

4. Regulatory system holds us back from the global market

We can’t get better prices for Canadian oil on the world market because our governments aren’t creating a workable regulatory system so that pipelines can actually get built.

5. Taxpayers foot the bill

Governments are the problem, but taxpayers pay the price because when governments have holes in their budgets from missing oil revenues, they fill those holes with money from taxpayers.

6. What’s the solution?

Get governments out of the way so that we can build pipelines, get a better price for Canadian oil and use the money to pay nurses and teachers and lower taxes.

When Canadians can’t get full value for our oil, it costs all of us because money the government would have collected from oil companies has to come out of taxpayers’ pockets.

The discount on Canadian oil has cost Canadian taxpayers $6.2 BILLION since 2013.

The solution is to build pipelines to get Canadian oil to markets so it can get full value.

We, the undersigned, call on all levels of government to immediately and urgently enable pipeline construction to proceed.
